Bob Dylan ACC Nov 7 th 06

Well we seemed to miss the entire Foo Fighters set :O( Normally I am good at gauging these things,I needed to come home, eat have a shower and get ready. I guess if I was super excited to see the Foo I could have just went directly without food and work attire, but doing that sitting in the ACC for 3 and a 1/2 hours just didn't appeal to me.

For the first time, I didn't buy primo seats, and wouldn't you know that this was the first show in the ACC i've been to without large screens to see what's going on on-stage. We had binoculars, but they weren't helping much either. The stage was set up very simply.I can understand why, Bob Dylan the legend doesn't need fancy light shows and special effects to carry his music.

The stage had a large star that reminded me of a Texas Star on it. The signifigance of that escapes me since he's from Minnesota.
Order of The Texas StarThis is a Texas Union Star..

The band was awsome, I think pretty much every instrument imaginable was played and they kept up to Dylan well. Dylan, the man can wail...Unlike listening to his recorded music, his voice booms over the instrumentals in a good way...He has a raspy, gritty sweet smooth voice, that literally vibrated my plastic beer glass. He can also play one mean harmonica, I've never heard ANYONE that can play the instrument like that.. Dylan has a gigantic body of work, alot of his songs have been covered by other bands. When you see him in person, he takes you on a journey, you will never hear him sing the same songs from the radio, if you do catch a tune very familiar, he changes the arrangement and tempo to make it different. I caught onto this rather quickly, and recognized the majority of the work he was doing on stage, James on the other hand had a hard time of it. He did pick one song out, sang it as he had always knew it note for note, and him and Bob sounded like they where singing two completely unalike songs.

This is exactly what I expected, since alot of his songs are covered I thought it would be a very unusual set, and it was. It was like a private jam session, very cool...The encore of course was two of his most popular tunes..
I guess the main problem with the whole thing is the crowd didn't seem to really get it, I think alot of them went to hear the classics verbatim, because once when he sung a very popular tune as he started, the crowd wet nuts for the first time of the night..I guess you could say he doesn't really play FOR the crowd, but for himself as an artist, if you really get him,you can travel along and really enjoy it.. it's an unforgettable experience....

I'd love to see him again, for James, he wasn't so impressed,lol..

Here is the set list...

  • Punk Rock band the Misfits have released two covers of this song. Once in 1999 as a single and once redone again in 2003 on their album Project 1950, an all 1950's era cover album.
  • Misfits - Monster Mash Lyrics

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
    And suddenly to my surprise

    He did the mash
    He did the monster mash
    The monster mash
    It was a graveyard smash
    He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
    He did the mash
    He did the monster mash

From my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes

    They did the mash
    They did the monster mash
    The monster mash
    It was a graveyard smash
    They did the mash
It caught on in a flash
    They did the mash
    They did the monster mash

    The zombies were having fun
    The party had just begun
    The guests included Wolf Man
    Dracula and his son

The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"

    They played the mash
    They played the monster mash
    The monster mash
    It was a graveyard smash
    They played the mash
It caught on in a flash
    They played the mash
    They played the monster mash

Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"

    It's now the mash
    It's now the monster mash
    The monster mash
    And it's a graveyard smash
    It's now the mash
It's caught on in a flash
    It's now the mash
    It's now the monster mash

Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Model A sent you

    Then you can mash
    Then you can monster mash
    The monster mash
    And do my graveyard smash
    Then you can mash
You'll catch on in a flash
    Then you can mash
    Then you can monster mash

    Coutdown to Halloween-Day 6

This song comes from one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time. It is from "Queen of the Damned" a movie based on the Anne Rice book. I have read all of Anne Rice's Witching and Vampire books, they're great! This song is about someone turning Vampire, the process and how it makes them feel...

    OHH OHH!!

Drowning deep in my sea of loathing
Broken by your servant I kneel
Will you give in to me?
It seems what's left of my human side
    Is slowly changing... in me
Will you give in to me?

    Looking at my own reflection,
    When suddenly it changes,
    Violently it changes!
OH! No, there is no turning back now
You've woken up the demon... in me!!

Get up, come on get down with the sickness!
Get up, come on get down with the sickness!
Get up, come on get down with the sickness!
Open up your hate, and let it flow into me!

Come on get down with the sickness!
    You fucker get up
Come on get down with the sickness!
Madness is the gift that has been given to me...

I can see inside you, the sickness is rising
Don't try to deny what you feel
Will you give in to me?
It seems that all that was good has died
    And is decaying in me
Will you give in to me?

It seems you're having some trouble
    In dealing with these changes!
    Living with these changes!
OH! Now the world is a scary place
Now that you've woken up the demon... in me!

Get up, come on get down with the sickness!
Get up, come on get down with the sickness!
Get up, come on get down with the sickness!
Open up your hate, and let it flow into me

    Don't do it! You're hurting me Oh-oohh!
Why did you have to be such a bitch?
    Why don't you,
Why don't you fuck off and die?
Why can't you just fuck off and die?
Why can't you just leave here and die?
Never stick your hand in my face again bitch

    Countdown to HALLOWEEN-7 days left!

Today's song choice is by Ministry, best known for the song "Jesus Built my Hotrod"
This song was released in 1985 on the Twelve Inch Singles album. The song name is (Everyday is) Halloween...

    Ministry (everyday Is) Halloween Lyrics
well I live with snakes and lizards
and other things that go bump in the night
cos to me everyday is halloween
I have given up hiding and started to fight
    I have started to fight

well any time, any place, anywhere that I go
all the people seem to stop and stare
they say 'why are you dressed like it's halloween?
you look so absurd, you look so obscene'

    o, why can't I live a life for me?
why should I take the abuse that's served?
why can't they see they're just like me
it's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world

well I let their teeny minds think
that they're dealing with someone who is over the brink
and I dress this way just to keep them at bay
    cos halloween is everyday
    it's everyday

    o, why can't I live a life for me?
why should I take the abuse that's served?
why can't they see they're just like me
it's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world

    o, why can't I live a life for me?
why should I take the abuse that's served?
why can't they see they're just like me
i'm not the one that's so absurd

    why hide it?
    why fight it?
    hurt feelings
    best to stop feeling hurt
    from denials, reprisals
it's the same it's the same in the whole wide world

    UK Chart-5

    Remember when you ran away
And I got on my knees
And begged you not to leave
    Because I'd go beserk

    Well you left me anyhow
And then the days got worse and worse
And now you see I've gone
    Completely out of my mind

And they're coming to take me away ha-haaa
They're coming to take me away ho ho hee hee ha haaa
    To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see those nice young men
    In their clean white coats
And they're coming to take me away ha haaa

You thought it was a joke
    And so you laughed
    You laughed when I said
That losing you would make me flip my lid

    Right? You know you laughed
I heard you laugh. You laughed
You laughed and laughed and then you left
But now you know I'm utterly mad

And they're coming to take me away ha haaa
They're coming to take me away ho ho hee hee ha haaa
To the happy home with trees and flowers and chirping birds
And basket weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're coming to take me away ha haaa

    I cooked your food
    I cleaned your house
And this is how you pay me back
For all my kind unselfish, loving deeds
    Ha! Well you just wait
They'll find you yet and when they do
They'll put you in the A.S.P.C.A.
    You mangy mutt

And they're coming to take me away ha haaa
They're coming to take me away ha haaa ho ho hee hee
To the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time

    Siouxie & the banshees

There is nothing I enjoy more than a women with a powerful voice, such is the case with Siouxie. Her hot look of fetish/goth was far ahead of it's time. I got into this band by first learning that Robert Smith of the Cure, opened shows for them when he started out. Not only was The Cure the opening act, but for a short spell when Siouxie and the Banshees lost a guitarist on tour, Robert Smith filled in. Which means, he opened the shows with his own band, then continued the night with Siouxie's band. They forged a close relationship, and started thier bands up within a couple years of each other. Siouxie started September 26. 1976 to fill a spot on the bill of a punk show in the UK organized by none other then Malcom Mclaren, band manager and bad boy from the Sex Pistols.Read below strange details of the begining ...
    "

The band was originally formed to fill an empty space on a bill at the first UK based "international punk rock festival". This show was organised by Malcolm McLaren at the 100 Club in London's Oxford Street on September 20, 1976.

The initial line up consisted of "Bromley Contingent" members Siouxsie Sioux (real name Susan Janet Ballion), Steven Severin (real name Steven Bailey aka Steve Spunker/Havoc), Marco Pirroni (later of Adam and the Ants and Rema Rema) and John Simon Ritchie, later famous as Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols, on drums. On this occasion their set consisted of a lengthy and chaotic improvisation based around "The Lord's Prayer", which also included lines from songs like "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", "Smoke on the Water" and "Twist and Shout".

A poor-quality recording of the concert is available."

My personal favorite CD's of hers are "Once upon a time: The singles"and "Tinderbox"(1986). I have pretty much everything, she is wonderful check her out! You will be dissapointed however to know that she has not released anything new since the early nineties...perhaps she will come back again, one can hope. Kate Bush's comeback album Aerial was amazing..another women with a terrifically haunting and wonderful voice. Today, I have Siouxie's song "Face to face" playing, this was on the soundtrack for the batman movie with John Nicholson in it.(1989) For more trivia see below...

    "

    • "Peek-a-Boo" was the first number-one song on Billboard magazine's Modern Rock Tracks chart on the week ending September 10, 1988.
    • Siouxsie and the Banshees used the alias "Janet and the Icebergs" for three gigs in 1980, Siouxsie's "real" middle name and an ironic band name [1].
    • The band got their name from Edgar Allan Poe's Cry of the Banshee and "Siouxsie" as a tribute to the Sioux tribe because Siouxsie Sioux "hates cowboys".
    • Their single "Kiss Them for Me" was their highest chart placing single on the Billboard Hot 100 and "Dear Prudence" was their highest on the UK singles chart, reaching number three.
    • Siouxsie and the Banshees' last show was in Belgium.
    • When Boy George was spliting up from then-boyfriend Jon Moss, he played parts of "Drop Dead/Celebration" on Moss' answering machine.
    • Siouxsie and the Banshees state their influences among others as: T Rex, David Bowie, The Doors, The Beatles, The Stooges and The Velvet Underground.
    • Prior to the Banshees signing to Polydor Records in 1978, a diehard fan started a "Sign the Banshees Do It Now" graffiti campaign which was put on most of the major labels in London at the time. Siouxsie Sioux once said "It was actually a big fan of ours who'd probably be really embarrassed if he knew I told you, no no no! it was actually Les Mills who went on to manage The Psychedelic Furs. He had blonde hair, a leather jacket and studs, with SIOUXSIE on it. For those two years (prior to the Banshees signing) he was pretty obsessive about it, then he got his own band together."
    • The artwork for both the album A Kiss In The Dreamhouse and its single "Slowdive" was based on Gustav Klimt. "

    Tom Petty ROCKED!

Tom Petty on the cover of Damn the Torpedoes.Tom Petty was amazing. As per usual our timing was impeccable, we got in, I got my t-shirt we made a mad dash to the lawn section just as  Tom Petty went on stage . His opening act was a band  I never heard of, so we didn't bother. I guess we could have been a bit better on the timing as we didn't have a beer in our hand when the show started. It was a great show, and the thirtieth anniversary of Tom Pettys work, and what an eclectic range of music ! Mostly, when someone releases a new album, 50 % of the show or more is dedicated to the new album. This was not the case with Tom, although he did play a couple tunes from his new album "Highway Companion" he also played alot of  his classics, and also the classics from the Traveling Wilburys. The Traveling Wilburys where a superband of ; Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison,Bob Dylan, and Jeff Lynne..Tom also played music that inspired him, my favorite tune was a little ditty done by the YARD BIRDS called I'm a man..it was AWSOME! It was nice to see him cover such a large body of work, and not all just his own hits. I was always under the impression that Tom had a certain whineiness about his voice, and I was quite mistaken. His range was incredible..I was truly watching a legend... The molson amphitheatre was packed, the range of age was neat, young and old came out to see him. We managed still to sneek up into some seats to have a closer view.I think the moment I will remember most in twenty or so years, is the encore...the wind started to pick up, mass amounts of birds began to fly by, and then just as he finished for the night it started raining. By the time we left the Molson Amp  it was pouring rain. We had an excellent time getting wet and running home in the rain, spirits where high, at the good vibes left over from the show. Classics always leave good impressions!

I woke up with this in my head...

You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
    When I met you

I picked you out, I shook you up and turned you around Turned you into someone new

Now five years later on you've got the world at your
    feet
Success has been so easy for you

But don't forget it's me who put you where you are now
And I can put you back down too

    Don't
    Don't you want me
You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't
    see me

    Don't
    Don't you want me
You know I don't believe you when you say that you
    don't need me

It is much too late to find
    - when you think you've changed your mind -
You'd better change it back or we will both be sorry

    Don't you want me baby
    Don't you want me
    Don't you want me baby
    Don't you want me

I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
    That much is true

But even then I knew I'd find a much better place
    Either with or without you

The five years we have had have been such good times
    I still love you

But now I think it's time I live my life on my own
I guess it's just what I must do

    Don't
    Don't you want me
You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't
    see me

    Don't
    Don't you want me
You know I don't believe you when you say that you
    don't need me

It is much too late to find
    - when you think you've changed your mind -
You'd better change it back or we will both be sorry

    Don't you want me baby
    Don't you want me
    Don't you want me baby
    Don't you want me
